Duties:

  • Manage the NASA-funded Hawai’i Aspiring Aerospace Engineers Academy (HAAEA) project activities.
  • Work with project team and manage the collection of student reports for review and their preparation for showcasing the project results.
  • Periodically report the progress in the project, including student performance data, to the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Assist the PI with drafting quarterly and annual performance reports in a format consistent with the structure of NASA reports.
  • Form high school student teams and university student teams for the key projects' performance, especially HAAEA’s Capstone research projects, pre-determined for each year of the project term.
  • Organize informal learning module classes for high school students as needed.
  • Support and manage student research study groups in rocketry, unmanned aerial systems, satellite ground stations and CubeSat mission design and development, planetary landing technologies and other groups as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance to students in applying for NASA Internships.
  • Disseminate the student project performance via the HAAEA’s website, high schools’ websites, and on other media platforms as appropriate and manage regular updates of the project website.

Responsibilities:

  • Form and manage student research study groups in rocketry, unmanned aerial systems, satellite ground stations and CubeSat mission design and development, planetary landing technologies and other groups as appropriate, including the Capstone research groups.
  • Periodically report the progress to the PI.
  • Draft quarterly and annual performance reports for NASA.
  • Organize and manage the showcasing events, including the key project presentations, awards ceremony, cultural program, and dinner by the end of fall semester.
  • Coordinate and schedule the project meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in STEM-related projects, good communication skills. Experience on working in a high school environment and providing mentorship and guidance to students.
  • Knowledge about NASA space missions and opportunities for students.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Adobe, MS Office programs and other software.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in informal teaching at high schools.
  • Knowledge about NASA Moon and Mars missions, experience with and knowledge of space mission maneuvers, abilities to work with high schools’ administrations and teachers, abilities to set up, coordinate and manage project activities, experience in organizing and running conferences, experience on data collection, analysis, and its reporting.
