Job Description

Overview:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative Kitchen Assistant Director who will assist with all food services and ensure high-quality, nutritious food for overnight campers and staff members. Under the direction of the Kitchen Director, they help manage and supervise a team of up to 15 kitchen staff members, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations. The Assistant Kitchen Director works closely with the Kitchen Director on food needs, assists with inspections and licensing, and maintains state, county, and ACA health standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists the Kitchen Director with all camp food services to meet the needs of the camp community through high quality, healthy meals and snacks, complying with all Association, state, and county standards.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Helps to train, supervise, schedule, and direct the Kitchen Specialists. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Assists in evaluating effectiveness of employed personnel seasonally; observes individual performances and appraises their effectiveness.
  • Assists with Colorado State licensing and inspections, Health inspections, ACA preparation and visitation.
  • Maintains a clean kitchen environment and accurate inventory.
  • Prepping, cooking, and cleaning scheduled meals as assigned by the Kitchen Director.
  • Helps the Kitchen Director to order all food products through our food provider consistent with enrollment numbers and oversees all deliveries. Ensures dietary needs are met for all campers and staff members.
  • Maintains an open, friendly, professional relationship with staff, parents, participants, and the community.
  • Attends staff meetings with other members of the camp team as needed.
  • Maintains regular and timely communications with supervisor and other YMCA camp employees.
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers. 
  • Maintaining confidentiality of YMCA issues and records.
  • Maintaining friendly, professional relationships with staff, participants, and community members.
  • Practices positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques with natural consequences.
  • Required to attend and complete staff meetings, trainings, and all mandatory licensing required trainings.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • 2+ years of experience in a camp or industrial kitchen setting required.
  • Cleared to drive YMCA vehicles with a clean MVR.
  • Completion of: CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Staff Orientation. (We provide this as part of staff training).
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
